Whenever I'm asked for my profession, I'm not quite sure what to answer because I happen to have two professions simultaneously...
I studied English and history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 2007-2014. After my studies, I decided to do my PhD in American Studies which I completed in 2018. During my time at Johannes Gutenberg University, I had the privilege of participating in exchange programs with Edinburgh University in Scotland (2010) and Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, USA (2015-16), where I worked as an exchanged lecturer for two semesters. After completing my dissertation, I did my 18 months teacher training at a "Gymnasium" close to Bonn. Today, I work as a teacher at a vocational college for deaf and hearing impaired students in Essen. I enjoy teaching and love the additional challenge of sign language in the EFL classroom. However, I also have a second profession: for more than a decade, I've been working as a freelance artist. It all started one day during my studies when I was sitting through what seemed like a never-ending lecture, where I sat there with an empty sheet of paper - and all of a sudden one cheeky "Männchen" just walked across my sheet of paper. Surprised with a pen in my hand, I watched as a second Männchen joined. And then there came more and more... Ever since, I've worked with all kind of customers and publishers. In 2019, I branched out into "graphic recording" and visualization, as well as live visualisations on stage accompanying talks / sermons. I enjoy creating art while processing a talk/speech. Occasionally, I also offer workshops on sketchnotes, as well as handlettering and drawing people. - Welcome - About Leap4joy/some thoughts |
